The world where we live has one cycle. The cycle is an intention which the earth on which we live has.
Moreover, it is also an intention of equal God. It is called Gaia theory. The Gaia theory is the theory which considers that the earth is animate life with one intention. There is the self-cleansing action in animate life including man. The allergic reaction which will eliminate the foreign substance from the inside of the body if it thinks by human. That is, it is expected to say that the abnormal phenomenon which occurs on the earth, and a natural disaster are what is depended on the earth's own self-cleansing action. In Greek mythology, it has so far been performed as gods' intention. It is five ages in Greek mythology. It is golden age, silver age, bronze time, heroic age, and age of bronze with which we are alive now. Except for the time of copper with which we are alive, four times are made by gods and it is said that prosperity and extinction have been repeated. I thought that each earth was God with one intention. I considered the common feature of this story and the Gaia theory. Moreover, we can feel existence of God called the earth familiar from "The Age of Man" of an ancient Greece myth.
Mortals of Gold Race were pure in heart and indeed, and they respected both their fellow human beings and the deathless gods, and the immortal loved them in return. And also, they lived carefree and easy lives, in freedom, safety, and peace. Therefor, the weather treated the Gold Race kindly, providing the warmth, beauty, and substance of an eternal spring. And mortals did not have to work to house or to clothe themselves. “Flowing nectar and milk formed their rivers, and the leaves of dwarf oak trees dripped honey.” (Rosenberg 12) They had always abundant food. But Silver Race which is next generation of Gold Race, never learned to treat one another with kindness and consideration, and their selfish behavior created injustice and war. And they didn’t respect the deathless gods and made no effort to please them. Therefore, Zeus became angry with it. Then, he changed the weather from eternal spring to a year of four seasons, which ranged icy cold of winter to the blistering heat of summer. Therefore, food was less plentiful, so they had to work for food. The bronze race which is the third time rioted with arms. Therefore, Zeus got angry with the violence out of human beings. Then, Zeus makes flood and killed almost all human beings. Because they did not deserve the precious life and life-sustaining earth they have been given, hence the flood. These are the clear examples of the idea of being earth equal God. And, it is an example of the self-cleansing action of the earth.
The age of bronze which is the time when we are alive. “ We have torn into the grain-giving earth, searching her secret treasure. And we have found iron and gold and became powerful and wealthy. Then, the value of these metals has led to war, and mortal hands have became bloody as they greedily tried to grasp the golden treasures of victory. Therefore, If we do not change our ways and our behavior will destroy us.”(Rosenberg 14)We found secret treasure of the earths, such as oil, and we almost used it up. Moreover, we scrambled for them and caused many war. Human is an existence which threatens the environment of the earth now. Therefore, if we do not change our way, Zeus will surely destroy our race as well as other times. That means, We will be destroyed by the natural phenomenon and abnormal weather by the earth.
Considering these cycles, it turns out that destruction of the time by Zeus is the self-cleansing action. He destroys once the time smeared with avarice, such as argument, discrimination and a human being, and makes a new era. This is completely the same as the Gaia theory. There may be a planet where the same self-cleansing action happened possibly until now. Therefore, it is possible that the natural phenomenon which has happened now is a process for making the human being who has broken the earth destroy like the process which Zeus performed. The author tells that us, Iron Race that are not shameful about the worst crime occurring all over earth,are similar to Silver Race, and so will be our fate. We have to change our way. Otherwise, the fate same again as other times will be followed. I think that this gave us the cause to gaze at now. Therefore, we have to strain our ears into the language of God called the earth.
