1. A quester
-The main character Sophie Amundsen who is an inquisitive and spirited fourteen year old and Alberto Knox who is an Sophi's philosophy teacher.
2. A place to go
-She went to many cunturies and centuries especially Middle Ages for learning philosophy and met to many philosophers.
3. A stated reason to go there
-To learn and finishe her philosophy course. Also Alberto Knox teaches Sophie about the Enlightenment and its humane values and about Kant and his unification of empiricist and rationalist thought.
4. Challenges and traials
-At the same time as she takes the philosophy course, Sophie receives a strange postcard sent to Hilde Moller Knag, care of Sophie. The postcard is from Hilde's father and wishes Hilde happy birthday. Sophie is confused, and moreso when she finds a scarf with Hilde's name on it. She does not know what is happening but she is sure that Hilde and the philosophy course must somehow be connected. After that, Alberto says that their lives are inside the mind of Albert Knag, Hilde's father. And Alberto has a plan to escape Albert Knag's mind.
5. The real reason to go
-Sophie wants to try to interfere in the world of Hilde and her father, and at the end of the book she is learning how to do so.
The weather is a very critical detail in setting the scene for stories. "Wuthering Heights" is closely tied to the weather. The conflict between the main character is tied inseparably in the natural landscape and the weather and the internal deep connection that forms the background. "Wuthering Heights is the name of Mr.Heathcliff's dwelling. 'Wuthering' being a significant provincial adjective, descriptive of the atmospheric tumult to which its station is exposed in stormy weather." Lakwood. (pg2) This quote is describing the weather conditions that Wuthering Heights is exposed to. It foreshadows that bad things happen at that house. Also the evening following Heathcliff's death is marked by heavy rain to suggest a theme of anguish and woe. "The rainy night had ushered in a misty morning - half frost, half drizzle - and temporary brooks crossed our path, gurgling from the uplands." Nelly (pg. 258) In the books and movies, the weather are closely liked to the character's emotion such as "Wuthering Heights" and that tells to the readers a clear images of story deployment and describe the mood of a character.
In literature, physical deformities, characteristics symbolize psychological, emotional, and moral values as well as imperfections. Harry Potter's scar represent mother's love. "Your mother sacrificed herself for you and that kind of act leaves a mark. (when Harry is going to touch his scar) No, this kind od mark can't be seen It leaves in your very skin. Love Harry. Love!" (Dumbledore's phrase from movie) But also the scaar represents his vindictive and sorrow, because when Voldemort comes close to Harry his scar ached badly. Also very often, a literary hero is physically marked in order to set him or her apart from the crowd. Character markings can also “stand as indicators of the damage life inflicts” when the “scar” appears in the context of the work. In the Beauty and the Beast, Beast's beastly appearance costs him acceptance from others, those who make up the norm. His individuality gives him a quite unique, more on the dismal side, outlook on life, making him the character of interest .
I can remember when I was a little kid and really enjoyed fairy tales. Fairytale's are always entertaining to hear. From this prompt, I reminds of the movie Hulk and the Beauty and the Beast. In the movie Halk, Bruce and Betty love each other but they can't stay with each other. Because Bruce is the Hulk. Not only does he pose a threat to Betty, the military is constantly chasing the Hulk in an attempt to harness his power. In Beauty and the Beast, the Beast is in love with Belle. But when the town’s people and Belle's suitor Gaston learn of this they become outraged and try to invade the Beast's castle. The townspeople in Beauty and the Beast are really similar to the military in The Hulk. Because they don't think thoes two couples should be stay with together due to the men's appearances and behavior. The Beast and the Hulk are similar. They are misunderstood and they are just both looks horrible and grotesque creatures. They’re know why their looks were changing, The beast was cursed and the Hulk was involved in a freak accident in a nuclear testing facility. Also Belle in Beauty and the Beast and Betty in The Hulk share similar traits. They both are close to someone who causes the trouble in the Beast's and the Hulk's lives. Gaston who is one of Belle's suitors attacks the Beast's castle and Betty's father leads the military operation to capture the Hulk. The difference of two movie is that the Beast turns back into a human and lives happily ever after with Belle. But Hulk there is no cure and must continue to run from the military and can never be with Betty. It shows that even violent, action-packed movies like The Hulk have similar ideas to wholesome fairy tales such as Beauty and the Beast.
Sophie's world:
In chapter 2, the autor states that when people eat together it is saying "I'm with you, I like you, we form a zommunication together." After read this chapter I remenbered Star Trek's dinner scene. In the Star trek, lot of different races eats dinner with together. Each one person they have their own style and manner for dinner, also it describing thier culture, world outlook and religions. But in the Star trek they eating same meal and it has deepened friendship. Therefore sometimes they invite enemies or people who lived in different planets and signed to a trat of friendship, and reaffirms their thinkings. In Japanese has an really nice idiom that explaining it. "同じ釜の飯を食う" it means 'to have lived together'. By the same community eat the same thing , and to have a sense of belonging as homologs . Or to strengthen it. Sharing meals with one another illustrates how much we are appreciated and often times helps us form a strong bond with another person.
